So today I saw the geneticist, to discuss the pros & cons of getting tested for the breast cancer gene. Turns out there aren't really any cons for me; since I've already HAD cancer, the testing won't negatively impact my future insurance. The pluses are many; the gene is also linked to ovarian cancer, so if the test comes out positive I should probably have my ovaries removed. Not to mention I would give up any second thoughts I might have about having the other breast removed; it would pretty much become a must. It would also be beneficial to the other females in my family, although it COULD negatively impact their insurance if they also decided to have testing done.
After reviewing the family history the geneticist said I had between an 8 & 18% chance of testing positive for the gene, which meant that Kaiser would authorize the testing. So I went down to the lab, they drew my blood, and FedExed it off to the genetic testing facility; I should have the results in 4-6 weeks.
Other than that, I was extremely unproductive the past 2 days; other than doing the dishes & taking out the trash, all I've done is watch movies & continue downloading music to my iPod. I've watched both The Ghost in the Shell movies (they were okay, I liked the 2nd one better), Tomb Raider (which mom didn't like), and Saved. Saved is really an awesome movie, completely hysterical, and if you haven't seen it, DO SO as soon as you can!
I have a full weekend ahead of me; acupuncture, Peter is doing a class on The Sight (as in second sight), and I'm gonna see Charlie & the Chocolate Factory on Sunday :-)
